Sustainability: it takes a team

Sustainability: it takes a team

When people think of “influencers”, they might think of fashion, beauty and the gym. But growing in popularity are the new generation of planet influencers who are tackling the sustainability challenge head on.

We’re committed to playing our part, which is why we’ve teamed up with Points4Planet: a school-focused organisation that is helping students and staff across the UK do their bit to influence a greener future.

What’s the scheme?

An app-based scheme, Points4Planet allows schools to track and record green activity and build up ‘planet influencer’ points for sustainable rewards.

Based on an easy-to-understand traffic light system, schools can gain an accurate picture of their performance across different categories such as energy consumption, consumables and commuting.

This overview will allow schools to get started quickly on the areas of most need – moving from red to green as they make changes to accelerate their sustainability journey.

These changes can range from implementing practical projects, such as installing EV charging points, to working together to change habits, for example by encouraging pupils to walk to school where possible.

Changing the world through pupil power

When a certain number of points are achieved, things get exciting. And these points mean prizes.

To make a real difference, Points4Planet is changing the way that schools are rewarded by speaking to the school (and students) to see where donations or other forms of support are most needed.

This innovative approach puts the power of a business’ Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funding directly into the hands of young people and their mentors – meaning schools get the exact help they need; when they need it.

From improving a building’s energy performance by upgrading its windows to installing a ground or air source heat pumps, directing corporate CSR funding to address school-specific challenges will make real, long-term sustainable change possible.

So, what’s our role?

We’re helping Points4Planet nurture the next generation of planet influencers.

Through the app, schools can find out more about the pioneering work we do. It shows how changes to existing or new buildings can quickly improve school estates and help them become net zero in operation.

But that’s not all we’re doing. As education specialists, we’re dedicated to improving the sector beyond buildings by helping to move the conversation forward and deliver bespoke solutions, education and support to our school partners.

This is of particular importance as schools begin to put together climate action plans as requested by the Department for Education, ahead of the 2025 deadline. These climate action plans are intended to improve school resilience in the face of climate change and help prepare pupils for the sustainable jobs of the future.

We are determined to lead the way, by showing schools and students the power that buildings can hold in creating a net zero future.

Connecting for a greener future

The Points4Planet system puts children and school staff in the driving seat when it comes to change.

We want to empower students and staff to change habits for the long term and lead the way to a brighter, greener future.
