Net Zero Buildings has taken another pivotal step forward in helping to create more sustainable education estates, spearheading positive change that unlocks widespread benefits for UK-wide staff and students.
As an industry-leading offsite manufacturer, NZB has been selected as the chosen modular partner for School Estates Thought Leaders (SETL), a collaborative hub providing guidance and support to school estate managers nationwide. Representatives from more than 600 schools have already joined SETL since the start of July.
Major milestone
Supporting school estates managers across the UK by providing them with online advice and training is central to SETL’s offering. School estates managers can log on and access a wealth of knowledge and resources that span nine core areas, covering modular and temporary classrooms, estates strategy, fire safety, facilities management, building surveying, construction, roofing, frameworks and security.
It is also a space for members to connect with each other and while getting advice from the experts, they can share their own experiences, help solve challenges and provide case studies for others in the same position – creating a community.
SETL also offers social value initiatives for estates managers to tap into. Constructive Futures, for example, is a programme helping to get young people interested in the built environment, along with Safety Superhero Academy, which focuses on teaching safety values to primary school pupils.
The new partnership, which will see NZB provide SETL’s members with expert advice on sustainable modular and temporary classrooms, is a major milestone. By joining forces with SETL, we are reinforcing the role we play in helping education estates create the space they need whilst improving their carbon footprint.

Net zero in operation
For many education estates, creating new spaces provides an invaluable opportunity to contribute towards the Government’s Net Zero Strategy and carve out a new pathway to becoming net zero in operation; a vision we have helped make happen on multiple occasions.
And now, thanks to the SETL network and NZB’s new partnership, estate managers no longer have to feel daunted about their sustainability journey. They can get access to everything they need to know, when they need to know it, including the latest regulatory updates, advice on making design more inclusive and, of course, how to create buildings that are net zero in operation.

More-and-more schools are turning to modular
In an effort to provide their students with sustainable, positive learning environments, an increasing number of schools are recognising the benefits of modular classrooms. These range from quicker construction times and minimal disruption, to healthier learning spaces and lower operating costs.
