About the project

This secondary academy needed to expand its capacity to accommodate more pupils. With limited capital budgets for new or replacement buildings, the project was funded by NetZero Buildings on a seven-year operating lease.

As principal contractor on this JCT contract, NZB delivered a full turnkey solution at Redmoor Academy.

The two-storey, 655m2 ultra-energy efficient building houses the maths department, business studies, and CEIAG (Careers, Education,Information, Advice, and Guidance) across eight classrooms.

Redmoor Academy is an oversubscribed school that needed to expand its capacity. Our in-house design team worked closely with the school ensuring that the building both exceeded the client expectations of the learning environment and met compliance regulations.

The academy turned to NZB for their innovative solution of increasing capacity whilst allowing energy savings.

Efficiency of design using standard components meant the ground floor was replicated on the first floor, with the only difference being the addition of a kitchen in what would have been the entrance lobby. This ability to mirror designs while still using our standard pallet meant the scheme was designed in two weeks, achieved planning in eight and was completed from install to handover in six weeks.

NZB were responsible for ensuring full statutory compliance for building control, while liaising with our external consultants for structural, MEP and ICT. We also managed our subcontractor network which included foundations, scaffolding flooring and decoration and various finishing trades. With limited capital budgets for new or replacement buildings, the Schoolhaus building was funded by NZB on a 7-year operating lease.

Students and staff have been blown away by our new facilities. When you compare this to our main school building you cannot compare the technology and reduced running costs. The quality is fantastic – as a teaching area I do not think you can better what we have here with our new build.
